Welcome to Plymouth IVC
Plymouth IVC is a well established social club with nationwide connections. Some 50 clubs belong to the association of Intervarsity Clubs (AIVC), and any member can visit other clubs when away from their home town. We describe ourselves as ‘professional, graduate and like minded’ people. What we do We enjoy friendly, informal, unpressured socialising with lively minded company and stimulating conversation. We publish our events programme every two months, doing whatever our members are willing to organise. Most Sundays we meet for a country pub lunch followed by a walk ending with a cream tea, if possible ! We have parties, ceilidhs, music, theatre, video, film evenings, meals out, weekly pub nights and “at homes” – take your pick !! In Summer beach afternoons, cycle rides, garden barbeques, etc are popular. Occasionally, we go sailing, canoeing, rock-climbing and other sports (according to current members’ interests). Past activities have included riding, gliding, jet-skiing, caving …. New ideas always welcome ! What we don’t We are non :- profit-making, fund-raising, political, religious or campaigning. We just aim to enjoy ourselves ! Also, we are not a “dating club”, although wedding bells do ring out from time to time ….. About Membership Most of us are single, but couples are welcome too. We come from a wide variety of jobs and backgrounds, and wide age range – 20’s to 50’s – (some of us have been enjoying the club a long time!) and we are always happy to see new faces. Try before you buy Unlike many other organisations, we do not ask for any money up front. We encourage potential members to come along to at least 3 different events, to see how you like it. The annual subscription (single) is: £ 25-00, which funds printing and postage, insurance and subsidized catering at home events. So, we offer very good value for your money !! Our Expectations Established members are encouraged to volunteer at least one or two events per year – or just be a contact/host for one of the pub nights (but don’t worry, no one gets rushed into anything). We hope it does not need saying, but of course, we do expect professional standards of conduct from all our members and visitors. (Mutual respect, consideration, politeness, etc !) Remember, that to have a cheerful and pleasant time, we need to be cheerful and pleasant ourselves. We all come to IVC to have a good time and leave any troubles at home ! What to do next ? A welcome letter normally comes with a copy of our current programme. So, select any event that appeals to you – pub nights and Sunday lunch/walks are usually a good start – and ring up the organiser, who will be pleased to provide full details and look out to make you welcome. |
